For the first time in the history of the University of Michigan a Reserve Officers' Training Corps was added to the curriculum in the fall semester of 1917. 1,200 students signed up for it on October 4, 1917.

This is a group of Red Cross workers from among female students of the University of Michigan posing in front of Angell Residence, which was the location for most of the War relief work on campus.

The local Red Cross organized a parade on May 21, 1918. The photos are taken from the 300 block of Main Street.
